We spent a wonderful week at the stargazing cabin. Orion was really spacious, well equipped and the bed was super comfy. We loved the fire pit and the bath, even in the rain! Poppy & Paul were great hosts – really friendly, quick to respond to any queries but also left us to it. We would 100% recommend and will hopefully return in the not too distant future! (Rowenna, September 2020)
We loved our stay in Poppy and Paul’s cabin. It is such a charming place; we had fun using the features of the wood burner, outdoor bath and fire pit which adds to the unique experience. The hosts give you your privacy and let you be in your own little secluded world but I had a few requests which they went out of their way to help with – they were really the loveliest hosts! We went to two of the recommended food places in nearby Honiton – I was expecting something nice but they were really spectacular! The Holt had some of the best food I’ve ever had in a beautiful interior and Toast cafe was very charming with a beautiful outdoor ‘secret’ (but very large) garden seating space. I’d highly recommend during your stay! Would happily stay here again it was perfect 🙂 (Chloe, October 2020)
The cabin is so effectively done and is the perfect place to relax and get away to. It is easy to get to beaches and the stars are amazing! Poppy and Paul were very helpful and made sure I had everything I needed. (Sophie, November, 2020)
Friendly hosts and a spotless cabin which was warm and toasty from the fun log burner. (Douglas, October 2020)
Beautiful little cabin in the Blackdown Hills with a wood burning stove and off-grid set up. Amazingly peaceful getaway with superb responsive hosts and great privacy. Everything you need to recharge your batteries for a while. I would love to stay again. (Jim, December 2020)
We had an amazing time. Orion exceeded expectation. We had everything we needed for a cozy, lazy weekend without children. We will definitely be back. (Charlotte, December 2020)

Orion has a kitchenette with hot running water, a cool box (which will keep things chilled for 5 days) and a gas hob. The sumptuous king size bed beneath a vast skylight window (fitted with blackout blinds) makes the most of every opportunity to catch sight of a shooting star. The large en-suite shower room is fitted with a walk-in shower and vanity unit with a sink. A luxury compost loo is accessed from the shower room without the need to step outside. The wood burning stove will keep you toasty in the cooler months and on chilly summer nights. We provide a large basket of logs, kindling and fire lighter for your stay. We have additional logs and kindling available to purchase if you require more.
The living-eating space has a comfortable seating area and a table and chairs for two, positioned to take in the view from the French windows which open out on to a spacious private deck. On the deck and grass below you’ll find everything you need for alfresco cooking and dining along with seating to relax and watch the stars or take in the view in your own little haven. The deck also boasts a vintage roll top bath with hot running water so that you can enjoy a luxurious soak beneath the stars. Telescopes and star maps can be borrowed and the cabin has plenty of cosy, warm blankets to keep you warm after dark.
The lighting is powered entirely from solar energy, with LPG gas for cooking and hot water, making your experience ‘off-grid’. The site has good 4G coverage but Wifi is not available in the hut. We invite guests to make the most of being able to switch off and unwind away from the bustle of daily life. However, if you do require access to the internet during your stay, you are more than welcome to login to our Guest Wifi which is available nearer the farm buildings. The cabins have a usb charging point for recharging phones.
Because we have livestock on the farm and we grow food products, we unfortunately cannot allow dogs on site.
Royal Oak Farm is the perfect location for exploring Devon further: 20 minutes from the Jurassic Coast (World Heritage Site); 10 minutes from Honiton; 20 minutes from Lyme Regis and 30 minutes from Exeter.
